Even though there is a lot of good quotes in Catcher in the Rye, the one that really stuck out to me was "Goddam money. It always ends up making you blue as hell." to me this says that. Holden does actually know some truth in his life, and sows some innocence in his life. He has all this money and he is now realizing that money can't always help you. Yeah it can help you buy food, something to drink and clothes but even though everyone needs that, we need so much more. E need love and someone to get our backs when we are low. Holden says he doesn't have anyone, but he is wrong. He has so many people in his life that would love to help him, but he doesn't realize it. He doesn't realize that he is pushing them away from himself, and when he reaches out to them, he doesn't show he needs them. This quote shows and proves that money can't buy you happiness. Holden thinks he can buy himself happy by getting drinks or going to bars, with all this money he thinks he can just go somewhere and get a date with a few drinks and that wil. Make him happy. Whenever he does carry out is plan, before it even starts he realizes that it won't make him happy. Since Holden is going to all these boarding schools, his parent must have quit amounts of money on their hands. With all their money that Holden coul shave, he is realizing that money can't buy him happiness and this is a good lesson for him. If he keeps on thinking that happiness come through money he will be in a world of hurt. This is so because when he gets older he will blow his money on things that he thinks will make him happy, but his expectations will be wrong. If he keep stinking this way he is going to have a long life.

Until Death Do Us Part

Until Death Do Us Part… Until death do us part Until death do us part These are beginning to sound Just like words The meaning is being Thrown right out of the door And sucked into the past And out of tradition Until death do us part Why are these words So easy to say? They roll off our tongue And off our mind Like our tears Down our cheeks Like there are suppose to be Where did the gentlemen go? Where did the beauty go? What happened to taking ones pain Together? As the innocent flower girl Goes down the isle And the not so happy ring boy Right by her side As the music starts And everyone stands up As the look on the groom is priceless When he sees his bride for the first time They say something sweet And have the kiss of commitment They walk down the isle together And go somewhere no one knows And as the years go by They will wonder what happened? They were so happy And come to find That sometimes to them, Words are words And don’t have meaning You truly have to feel the power in Until death do us part

There is always Two Sides of the Story

Holden to me is a very common "person" but not teenager, he is very intelligent but he just doesn't see that. He is very mature for his age, he can take care of himself and tend to do it well. He's not scared to be alone and he isn't scared to break the rules, he is very bold. The reason why I say he is a common person is because he doesn't know what to feel or what to do in his life. Many people have trouble finding themselves, they go great lengths to try to find the, selves, but they end up finding themselves close to home. I feel like this is what Holden is experiencing but it's different, he isn't suppose to be trying to find himself at this age, he is to young, that's why I think he is having so much trouble. He has no one to help him so he is searching and experiments to find himself, but he doesn't realize that he already knows who he is. That's why he relates to this quote 'Better is one's own duty imperfectly carried out than following perfectly the law of another. Better is death in the fulfillment of one's own law,for to follow another's law is perilous.' I feel that this quote is saying its better to be yourself then conforming, and Holden is exactly this, he knows he is not like everyone else, so that's why he is having so much trouble finding out who he is. He I looking and will do nothing to jut get a hint on who he really is. That's why I think he cat stand being by other who are happy and they know who they are. It makes him depressed to see others that know who they are and what they are doing with their lives. He tries very crazy and bold things, that's why he can never sit still and he is looking at others to see if he sees himself in them. Maybe that's why he is always thinking about his sister and brother? If he is related to them, then why not try finding himself in them? One example he is trying to find himself is when he hired the prostitute, even though he said he hired who was because he wanted practice, but I thinks their is more. He is trying to feel older so he can find himself, he is trying to be less dependent and go on his own so no one will hold him back. One quote that I found I thought was very descriptive of Holden. “Most people don't know what they want or feel. And for everyone, myself included, It's very difficult to say what you mean when what you mean is painful. The most difficult thing in the world is to reveal yourself, to express what you have to... As an artist, I feel that we must try many things - but above all, we must dare to fail. You must have the courage to be bad - to be willing to risk everything to really express it all.” ― John Cassavetes I feel that this quote was meant for Holden, he doesn't know what he wants in life or what he wants to do with his life, but he is daring to risk it all searching. He is lost in words, he is trying to express himself but he tends to cover up what he wants to say with child like words. He doesn't like to reveal himself to other, I think he doesn't like to because he feels weak and vulnerable, he always feels like he need to be on guard 24-7. He feels this way because like I said before he is to mature for his age and he basically has to make adult like decisions. He tries many things to try to find himself, even if he knows he will fail, he is strong on the outside, but he is still a child on the inside. This combination can sometimes be dangerous.

One example where Holden "shoots crsp around us" is when he was on the bus with a fellow classmates mother. He was kind of hitting on her and very much lieing to her. "once I start lieing, I can't stop" what we can learn from this is that the first moment that we lie, we can't stop and this is true. We tend to lie and say things not from our own opinion, but what others want to hear. Holden lies I think because he wants to feel older than he feels like he is, his parents seem like they don't pay to much attention to him, so he lies to feel older so he can take care of himself. Another example I found was when he was calling the girl. "I deepened my voice so she couldn't tell my age" he called his girl that a guy told him about at a party and he wanted to have a "good" time with her or possibly give her "time" we can learn from this because we live in a very fast world and kids are tending to grow a lot faster in maturity, but we still act like kids inside. We want to do crazier and badder things to make us feel older and more cooler. We Dan respect our parents as much, so we want to get away from them as soon as possible so we try to act more mature and less dependent. We do crazy things to make ourselves feel better and cooler, which we shouldn't we should vaule our childhood becuase we will miss it in the end.
When Holden was telling us about his brother's death,Allie. I was surprised to see how calm and he only saw the bright side/positive side of his death. He missed his brother but he didn't really let people see that. He only told us stories about Allie that where positive and the good things about Allie, I saw that very inspiring. When someone dies in our life, sometimes we let it bring us down and hold us back and e always bring that negative things out of someone's death. Holden however let Allie's death bring him, move him on, and inspired him. His brothers death taught him a lot of things even though Hokden doesn't see that. I think we can learn a thing or two from Holden, he teaches us that death is a sad thing, but it also can be a happy thing.

Holden Caulfild

After reding these 4 chapters, I'm starting to really see the true Holden. Not the Holden thst everyone sees and what everyone thinks of him, but the side that almost no one sees. Everyone thinks Holden is a slacker and doesn't apply this self to anything, but they are wrong. He apples himself to life, he can look at someone and tell if they are "real" or "phony". He thinks his parent are phony and I think he feels this way because they never realy pay attention to him. They send him off To a boarding school and dont see him for monthsm and they seem to be okay with that. Everyone thinks his parents are grand, but thats not what he thinks. "Grand. There's a word that I really hate. It's a phony. I could puke every time I Hear it. That's why he doesn't have to many friends. He wants to befriend someone who always acts like themselves and that th vaule who they cruelly are. He is failing 4 out of 5 classes, except English class. He tries to say "I pawed English all right...because I had all that Beowulf and Lord Randal My Son stuff when I was at thE Whooton School" I think Holden passed this class be use he really valued it.I mean this was the only way he could write about his past, how he feels, and it was only way people would listen to him. Later in the book a girl comes up, a old friend of Holden's. Her name was Jane, an she was somewhat special to him. Ever since he heard that she was there, he could te stop thinking about her. Maybe this was one of those people who wasn't a "phony" in his eyes. Maybe this was someone he could really relate to. Was this this the only person that he really cares for?
